Flannan Isle

Nights are long
at Eilean Mòr Lighthouse
west coast.
Sometimes on inclement nights
shouts are heard,
a roll-call over the dark swell.
Mac Arthur, Ducat, Marshall
names filling gullies,
swallowed by an ink-black sway.
Pay no heed to siren calls
but batten down the hatches –
pray that sea-madness will pass
surely as tides carry the waves.
God is over all.
